Find out about the local people who are standing to be Longmeadow & Bragbury End's Conservative Councillors in May 2024:
Cllr Bret Facey
I have had the privilege to represent Longmeadow & Bragbury End since 2022. I have lived in Stevenage my whole life and currently live locally in the south of Stevenage with my wife and young daughter.
For my job I work for Harrow Council in north London. The experience gained in through my job gives me an expert understanding of the often complex and confusing ways local councils work. My understanding of council procedures and systems has allowed me to advise residents in complex situations as well as delivering positive change in challenging circumstances.
With my fellow Councillors, we regularly visit most streets in the local area at least once a fortnight where we record, report and resolve numerous problems from fly-tipping and potholes to broken fences and missing benches.
I have really enjoyed being a Councillor for the last 2 years and I am pleased to have met with and spoken to hundreds of local people. Working with residents to find positive solutions to their concerns is something which drives me.
I also serve as a governor for a secondary school in Stevenage. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, which is a hobby I bring to my Councillor role as I’m always looking for ways to enhance our local environment with tree, bulb and shrub planting.
Cllr Alex Farquharson
Since 2019, I have represented Longmeadow & Bragbury End on Stevenage Borough Council. I have lived in Longmeadow for nearly all of my life and grew up in the Oaks Cross area.
I work for a major retailer which gives me a good understanding of the importance of business to our community.
This election is about local issues. We have a strong Conservative team in Longmeadow who listen to and deliver for local people. In conjunction with my colleagues, we have managed to fill potholes, clear over 100 fly-tips, deal with anti-social behaviour, oppose inappropriate development, and clean or replace dozens of dirty/ damaged street signs.
I have worked hard to pressure the Labour Council to keep its promise to Bragbury End and deliver a new community centre for local people. Like you, I am a local resident, so I experience the issues that affect our neighbourhood every day. This means that I can effectively report and resolve these issues.
Cllr Adam Mitchell CC
It has been a privilege serving as a Stevenage Borough Councillor in Longmeadow since 2016 and, since 2017, as the Hertfordshire County Councillor for Broadwater. Living in both areas has given me a genuine understanding of the needs and priorities of our local residents.
My aim is to uphold Stevenage's reputation as a fantastic place to live, work, and travel, while also leading Hertfordshire's expected growth. I'm deeply committed to championing public health, community protection, and responsible resource management.
Beyond my professional commitments, I enjoy hobbies like karate, where I recently achieved my purple belt grading, and activities such as walking, photography, playing computer games, and solving puzzles.
When it comes to engaging with residents, I value meaningful conversations over grandstanding at Council meetings. Having lived in the area for over 20 years with my wife and three children, I am experienced in prioritising the concerns of our community.
Through my efforts, I hope to foster reasonable and sustainable development, ensuring prosperity for both Stevenage and the wider Hertfordshire region. I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those I represent. Serving my community is a passion, which is why I gave up my previous career as a pensions administrator so that I could focus on making Longmeadow and Bragbury End an even better place to live.
Bret, Alex and Adam's 3 priorities for the Longmeadow & Bragbury End:
Maintain pride in our neighbourhoods
We have invested in replacing many damaged street name signs, installed benches, planted hundreds of daffodil and tulip bulbs and tided overgrown paths. We will continue to enhance our streets.
Tackle fly-tipping, littering & antisocial behaviour
We have reported and cleared over 100 fly-tips, run litter picking events, removed graffiti and arranged street meets with residents and police at local crime/anti-social behaviour hotspots.
Campaign for more parking & community facilities
We continue to call for new parking bays and have maximised use of existing parking spaces. We are keeping pressure on the Labour Council to deliver a new community centre.
